Gérard Faggionato of Owner and Director of Faggionato Ltd will join David Zwirner Galleries as a partner at the David Zwirner Gallery London. Faggionato will work alongside Angela Choon a senior partner at the gallery.

With over 30 years of experience in the art industry, Faggionato will bring his expertise in contemporary and modern art to the company, focusing on sales of both the primary and secondary markets. David Zwirner has galleries in both London and New York where a second gallery was opened in 2013 to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of the original New York location.

Talking about the move Gérard has said “I had no intention of closing my own gallery, so when approached, I was completely surprised. David has been a great colleague for two decades, and after many months of conversations, I could see how joining the gallery would offer new challenges. As the world of art has become much more complex, it requires both energy and experience, insight and global views, thoughtfulness and strength, and the Zwirner team certainly embraces the right ethos and environment for artists and estates, museums and collectors.”

Faggionato started his career in London in 1982 after completing a fine art course at the Sotheby’s institute. He then joined the Robert Fraser Gallery which was key to bringing the work of Keith Haring and Basqiuat to a London audience in the 1980s. After working at the gallery for several years Faggionato moved to work at Christie’s in the impressionist and modern art department, from this he progressed to the director of contemporary art for Europe and eventually head of contemporary art worldwide.

In 1993 he launched his own gallery Faggionato Fine Arts which has been based in Mayfair for the last 22 years. The focus of the gallery, now known as Faggionato Ltd, has predominately been European and American modern and contemporary masters. Faggionato Ltd represents an extensive list of artists including Gilbert and George, Richard Hamilton and Alexander Calder.

The Grafton Street London gallery opened in Mayfair in 2012 with an exhibition of Luc Tuymans work which echoed a much early sale of the artist’s work at the original New York gallery just after it opened. As well as representing 40 different artists and estates David Zwirner has also published several books through David Zwirner Books a stand-alone publishing house distributed by Artbook.
