One of the greatest Impressionist masterpieces to surface at auction in a decade and an internationally revered private collection lead the works to be offered in the Impressionist, Modern & Surrealist Art Evening Sale at Sotheby’s London on February 5.
The items on sale encompass works on paper, paintings and sculpture, many from prestigious private collections that have been revered internationally and exhibited at the most celebrated museums and galleries.
Highlighting the 90 lots in the sale are a restituted masterpiece by Camille Pissarro that represents one of the most important Impressionist paintings to come to the market in the last decade; a significant group of works on paper and sculpture from the private collection of legendary gallerist Jan Krugier – works by Goya, Delacroix and Ingres juxtaposed with those by Degas, Cézanne, Giacometti and Picasso; one of the greatest Surrealist works by René Magritte ever to come to the market; and supreme German Expressionist masterworks.
The Evening Sale is estimated to fetch in excess of £93/$150/€111 million.
