Australian Aboriginal and Australian paintings, important jewels, rare works of Colonial heritage and Asian works of art will feature in Bonhams’ Australian Series of Spring Auctions to be held in Sydney 24 – 27 November.

The auction of Fine Australian paintings includes Herbert Badhams’ ‘On the Roof’, 1928, a sparkling metaphor of the sunny freshness of Sydney Harbor. Also included are a group of rare paintings by Ethel Spowers, including two oils, all of which issue from the estate of the artist and thence by direct descent.

A major work by Arthur Streeton, a rare oil by ST Gill, a 1913 view of Sydney Harbour by Elioth Gruner are accompanied by a large important landscape by Fred Williams and an offering of notable contemporary works by Tim Storrier, Brett Whiteley and Albert Tucker. Included too is an important collection of Australian Aboriginal artefacts and paintings from an American collector.

Also for auction are two diamond rings by Harry Winston; one, a pear-shaped diamond ring weighing 9.97 carats, the other, a round brilliant-cut diamond weighing 4.34 carats of D colour, VVS1 clarity.

Following the international trends, the Asian Art auction promises to excite keen interest with items such as a fine gilded bronze Buddha, possibly Ming, and a Sino-Tibetan silver inlaid casket and cover dating from the15th-16th century.
